Where to take old furniture and junk in Tallinn

Guide 2026 · Tallinn and Harju County

An old sofa, a broken cabinet, a cellar full of junk – where do you put it all? We go through every option: give it away, sell it, take it to the waste station yourself, or book a removal. We also say honestly when you do not need us.

The short answer. Furniture in working order – give it away or sell it. Broken furniture – the waste station, 10.30 €/m³ for a Tallinn resident. Metal and appliances – the station at 0 €. If you have no car, or the item is heavy and the floor is high – book a removal.

Four things you can do with old furniture

1. Give it away or sell it

Furniture in working order often finds a new owner. Try classified sites and Facebook groups. A free listing moves faster than a cheap one – and the buyer usually comes to collect it.

2. Give it to a reuse centre

Reuse centres accept intact furniture and appliances. Some will collect a larger item themselves. They do not take broken or dirty items.

3. Take it to the waste station yourself

The cheapest way if you have a car and the strength. As a Tallinn resident you pay 10.30 €/m³ for bulky waste and nothing for metal and appliances.

4. Book a removal

When you have no car, the item is heavy or the floor is high without a lift. We carry it out, load it and hand it over officially at the waste station.

What goes where and what it costs

The prices apply to a Tallinn resident taking the waste there in person with photo ID.

What to do before it goes

  1. Sort it

Metal, wood and appliances into a separate pile – handing those over costs 0 €. Mixed junk is charged at a higher rate.

  2. Empty it

Take documents, keys and valuables out of the cabinets. A fridge and a washing machine have to be drained of water and unplugged.

  3. Take it apart

A dismantled cabinet fits into a car far better. If you book a removal, we do it ourselves.

  4. Measure roughly

Multiply the height, width and depth of the pile – that gives you the cubic metres and lets you work out the price.

When taking it yourself is not worth it

  • A corner sofa or a large cabinet will not fit in an ordinary car. Van rental plus fuel eats up the price difference fast.
  • A third floor without a lift. Carrying a sofa down the stairs between two people is harder than it looks – and the door frames suffer.
  • A whole flat full of junk. One load will not do it; it takes several trips and a whole day disappears.
  • There is no time. The tenancy ends tomorrow, or the flat has to be emptied before a sale.

Ask for a price

Send photos and the address – we reply within a few hours. We will say honestly if it is cheaper for you to take it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can old furniture be left beside the rubbish container?

No. Bulky waste does not belong in the building rubbish container or beside it. The housing association has to have it removed at its own cost, and that cost is split between all residents. Some associations order a bulky waste collection round once a year – ask your manager.

How much is one cubic metre?

About ten large rubbish bags, or two wardrobes side by side. A corner sofa is roughly 2 m³, a wardrobe 1.5 m³, a mattress 0.5 m³.

Can you get to the waste station without a car?

In practice no. The station does accept small amounts brought on foot, but you are not walking there with a sofa or a cabinet. Then the options are a rental van, a helpful friend, or a removal service.

What should I do with asbestos cement sheeting?

Asbestos cement sheeting is hazardous waste and is accepted only at the Rahumäe waste station. 41.30 €/m³ for a private person, 62 €/m³ for a company. Wrap it in plastic and do not break it into pieces.

Do you buy old furniture?

No, we do not buy or broker second-hand furniture. If the item is intact and valuable, try selling it yourself first – that is better for you than disposal.
